Introducing OxLEP Skills, Work Experience Employer Award sponsor
We are delighted to introduce Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) Skills as the sponsor of the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards 2020 Work Experience Employer Award. This is a new category for this year, designed to recognise the importance of work experience as a route into Apprenticeships for employers and learners alike.
OxLEP champions our county's economic potential, driving a dynamic economy that boasts many world-class assets. The OxLEP Skills team work with schools and employers across the county to facilitate careers and enterprise activities that help young people prepare for the world of work. One of they ways they do that is through a work experience service, providing more than 5000 young people with high quallity and meaningful work experience placements across the county each year.
Skills Hub Manager, Sally Andreou, explains why work experience is so important and how it relates to Apprenticeships.
Meaningful work experience placements are a fantastic way for young people to get an idea of what the world of work is like. It also gives them the opportunity to find our about job roles they may not have heard about before and try out something they think they would like to do.
Many employers see work experience as part of their talent pipeline and may go on to offer an Apprenticeship to someone following a successful placement. We provide support and guidance for employers who are interested in offering a work experience placement and support them through the process. See our videos and 'how to' guide at www.oxfordshirelep.com/skills/our-programmes/work-experience.
Our service provides placements to students while they are at school but we recognise that employers offer work experience of all different types and we encourage entries from employers who offer meaningful work experience to people of all ages.
