Join us for social media event #OxCareersLive on results days

Young people across Oxfordshire will be receiving calculated A Level and GCSE results this August. For each student, schools and colleges have provided a ‘centre assessment grade’ for each subject – the grade they would be most likely to have achieved had exams gone ahead – taking into account a range of evidence including, for example, non-exam assessment and mock results. #OxCareersLive – 13th and 20th August, 12:00 – 14:00

To provide information and inspiration for young people and those who support them on and around results days, OxLEP Skills are holding two virtual careers events on social media. These will be held on Thursday 13th August (A Level results day) and Thursday 20th August (GCSE results day) and will incorporate Oxfordshire Apprenticeships Hour (#OAHour), which is run every Thursday on Twitter from 13:00 – 14:00. From 12:00 – 14:00 on these days, we will be sharing opportunities, resources, top tips and inspirational stories on the @OxLEPSkills and @OxonApprentice social media channels (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) using the hashtag #OxCareersLive.

The aim of the events is for students and their parents/carers and other supporters (e.g. Careers Leaders and other family members) to get ideas and inspiration from the posts and find out about support available and useful resources. We will signpost to local and national results day support (such as through Oxfordshire County Council and the National Careers Service).

The posts will be shared on results days but will be available for young people and parents/carers to refer to afterwards, as we know that many people will be looking for information and guidance at a later date, rather than on results days themselves.

We are encouraging as many businesses, training providers and support organisations as possible to take part, supporting and inspiring this year’s school leavers by sharing content on their social media accounts during the events using the hashtag #OxCareersLive. We are asking them to:

  • Share current vacancies and opportunities on their own social media channels
  • Signpost to courses and learning opportunities
  • Give information about online events, such as virtual tours and open days
  • Detail support they’re offering, such as webchat sessions for young people
  • Share inspirational stories and case studies from young people e.g. a student or Apprentice talking about their experiences or giving top tips
  • Share inspirational career and job stories e.g. short films of different colleagues talking about their job role and career journey
  • Give top tips e.g. how to stand out from the crowd, interview techniques etc
